Believed to date back to the Phrygian period, Avdalaz Kalesi is a remarkable rock settlement that hosted several civilizations over the centuries. It is known to have been used during the Roman and Byzantine periods as well. Carved directly into natural rock formations, the structure consists of a multi-level rock-cut settlement.
Inside the castle, there are rooms, passageways, and a large cistern accessed by stairways. These carefully carved spaces once served as active living quarters. Despite the passage of time, much of the structure has survived, making Avdalaz Castle an important historical and cultural landmark.
Over the years, parts of the rock formations have broken away due to natural causes, leading to damage in some of the chambers. Nevertheless, the site still stands impressively, continuing to reflect the traces of its rich past.
